I've been going to my local gym for a while and recently I've noticed some posters advertising Pru Health gym memberships.

Apparently I can end my current gym membership and join Pru Health for £25, then get my monthly gym membership for £40, rather than the £58 a pay at the moment. Bargin. That means £65 for health insurance and gym membership - not a saving but health insurance for £7 extra. :)

Sounds almost too good to be true. Has anyone done this? What are the pros and cons?

I'm not sure about the Pru Health membership but I've just signed up to BUPA and I get a year's free membership to Fitness First!! I just need to muster up the energy to get there after work now!! ;)

Pru Health is a brilliant idea. If you are dedicated you can get really good returns. Basically there is a two tier system; your gym membership and your health insurance. You can get lower premiums on both if you commit to keeping fit. E.g. if you go to the gym so many times in a quarter you can reduce your gym membership to £15 a month (as opposed to the initial £40). Also, by going to the gym, having fitness assessments and subscribing to fitbug you can earn ponits to reduce your health insurance premium for next year. You can track your points progress on line which acts as a real incentive. I'm hooked.
