I started training with Tom soon after I met him, I was at the point of my life I realised I had to do something about my excess weight and as time waits for no-one, I decided I had to do something about it. Joining the gym was a big step for me to take but I wasn’t really sure how to go about reaching my goal which I soon realised was a much bigger hurdle.
I was struggling with one of the exercises I was doing when Tom came over and asked if I needed a hand, he quickly corrected me and educated me in the importance of technique, this surprised me as I’d never even thought about exercising being so in depth and how it affects the body in different ways.
He asked me what my goals were and if I was happy with what I was doing to reach those goals, I had to be honest as I didn’t really have a clue. I then booked in for a free ½ hr consultation with him which we went through a few days later. He asked me a series of questions to find out what I wanted to achieve, he also spent a good 10 minutes just trying to find out how emotionally connected I was with each of my goals, so he could see what really mattered to me.
That took me back as I’d never expected someone to care that much about how I felt, We started training together twice a week after that, the first few weeks we spent time on technique and specific areas such as my core and back, after that we went deeper into my training to start reaching my goal safely.
Our sessions are fun even when we’re doing cardio, which was surprising to begin with as I hated running or the cross trainer and regardless of my day he always makes me smile. That combined with the fact he has a very professional approach and is serious about his work makes it easier for me to progress in my training.
Tom often gives me something to take home and read if he thinks it might be of use to me and has helped me change my diet, my god he even calls me between sessions now and again to make sure I’m keeping on course and it’s because of that I’ve so far lost over a stone in weight, I’m feeing happier, more energetic and much more confident. I know I’ve put the effort in but if Tom wasn’t by my side putting in 100% effort and helping me through when I found it so tough, I know I wouldn’t be where I am today. Thankyou. Ellen Lock
