YMCA Fit Studio Instructor course
The YMCA Fit Studio Instructor course covers many areas of health and fitness, including:
- Identifying the major bones, muscles and muscle actions of the body
- Explaining the workings of the body's cardiovascular and energy systems
- Identifying the components and principles of fitness Safely administer CPR
- Relating the Health and Safety at Work Act to the studio environment

Studio Instructor course content
The YMCA Fit Studio Instructor course includes essential fitness training course content, allowing students to become qualified highly skilled studio instructors. The content of the YMCA Studio Instructor course includes:
- Anatomy and physiology
- The components and principles of fitness
- Relevant skills and knowledge needed to design and teach exercise to music in a variety of styles, from hi / lo to body conditioning
- Methods of delivery
- Health and Safety
- Customer Care
- An introduction to Essential Skills Modules
Course format
The YMCA Fit Studio Instructor course allows students to learn in a variety of formats, allowing them the freedom to learn either full-time, part-time or via home study distance learning.
- Intensive: 14 days, spread over 3 weeks. The course runs week on (7 days) - week off - week on (7 days).
- Weekends: 14 days, over weekends (not always consecutive). Courses may also include some Fridays.
- Blended Learning: This approach allows you to complete the theoretical component in the comfort of your own home and at your own pace. There is also a face to face practical module. Both are compulsory elements of the course. Each student will be allocated a guidance assessor, who will be available to give assistance on completing the study pack, providing phone and email support.
YMCA Fit Studio Instructor course prerequisites
As a YMCA Fit qualified studio instructor it is important that students have experience of participating in Studio Instructor classes prior to enroling onto the Studio Instructor training course.
Studio Instructor course assessment
- Multiple choice theory paper
- Practical (plan, teach, evaluate)
- Worksheets (completed during course)
- You will be required to bring two helpers for your practical assessment
