A recent study by the World Cancer Research Fund has found that many designer coffees and iced coffees from outlets including Starbucks, Cafe Nero and Costa Coffee carry an excessive amount of calories.

The study highlighted that the Starbucks large Dark Berry Mocha Frappuccino, with added whipped cream has 561 calories, almost 40 calories more than a steak and chips dinner!

Other high calorie coffee options included the Double Chocolate Frappe and the Mocha Frappe Latte, containing milk and sugar, at Cafe Nero contains 483 calories, while the Masimo Coffee Frescato at Costa Coffee contains 332 calories.

The study showed that many women can get over a quarter of their daily recommended calories (approx 2000 calories a day) simply from drinking a designer iced coffee.

Starbucks commented that it did have low calorie coffee options as well has the calorie laiden options studied by the World Cancer Research fund team.
