Types of spa: Hotel spas

Hotel spas are usually a luxury spa venue based in a regular hotel. A hotel spa differs from a destination spa in the fact that spa treatments in a hotel are bought in an a la carte manner; you simply purchase the spa or beauty treatments that take your fancy while staying at the hotel. At a destination spa you usually purchase a 'spa package', which encompasses many well know treatments and services. At a hotel spa treatments are usually bought not as a package but as single specific spa or beauty treatments.

The benefits of staying at a hotel spa

As the name implies a hotel spa is a hotel 'with a spa'. This means that guests gain all the benefits of staying in a luxury hotel as well as beauty and spa treatments; good food, access to a fitness suite and swimming pool, and of course the bar!

Benefits of a hotel spa also usually include:

  • Nice surroundings
  • Treatment rooms
  • Restaurant
  • Day spa offers

The drawbacks of a hotel spa

The main drawback tends to be a limited menu of spa and beauty treatments. Of course the main stay treatments of any good spa venue will still be available, from massages to facials, manicures and pedicures. However, more specialised treatments like baths and body wraps may be off the menu.

Another drawback includes other guests! Unlike a health farm or a dedicated destination spa other guests not using the hotel spa will be staying at the venue. This means to walking around the hotel or grounds in robes and flip-flops.

However, the benefits of staying at a hotel spa, we believe, far outway any drawbacks. A hotel spa experience offers flexibility and a cost effective and personalised option to using a spa.

NOTE: Please be aware that hotel spas may vary depending on their location and your choice of spa.
