Types of spa: Spa resorts

Like many spa venue services, there is some overlap between a spa resort, a hotel spa and a destination spa. As with a destination spa experience a spa resort will offer guests on site residential accommodation. And as with a hotel spa experience spa treatments at a spa resort can be bought in an 'a la carte' manner. This means guests can purchase a personalised spa experience based on the services and treatments in which they'd like to induldge.

Spa resorts, like hotel spas, come in all shapes and sizes.  From sprawling spa resorts in the countryside to smaller private inn type facilities in small towns or villages.

What you can expect from a spa resort

Spa resorts offer key spa and beauty treatments, from Swedish massage and hot stone therapy to reflexology and acupuncture. Again these services and treatments are often bought in an a la carte manner, while all other complementary services (yoga, pilates and fitness classes will be additional).

Also a resort should be a resort. Like a hotel spa, spa resorts normally have an onsite swimming pool, sauna and a fitness suite.

Spa resorts and the family

Spa resorts are usually a great compremise for the family. Often spa resorts have children's clubs for the kids, a golf course for him and obviously spa treatments for her.

Also beware that spa resorts meals aren't included in the pricing - unlike destination spas where meals are provided.
