The spine and neck can move in many different directions, being able to extend and rotate, mostly due to the recruitment of the muscles and connective tissue known as the erector spinae.
The erector spinae muscles can be targeted with some strength training exercises in an effective manner, with the aim of strengthening the muscles to provide greater support and injury prevention to the lower back.
